Nina Lydwina Puruntatameri depicts the Jilamara (body paint design) of her fathers Country, Yapilika, in the middle of Melville Island. The design represents the sacred site of Yapilika, where her dreaming of the jungle fowl and owl come from.

Nina Puruntatameri is a Tiwi woman from Melville Island. She was taught to paint by her father, Romuald Puruntatameri. As a 14 year old, she would come home from school and work with him, painting his spears. Nina Puruntatameri has worked at both Nguiu Adult Education and Munupi Arts & Crafts doing bark painting, screen printing, works on linen, etchings and linocuts. In 1993 Nina Puruntatameri won the Award for New Medium at the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards in Darwin, providing recognition for her exceptional skills in etching.


In 2015, NORTH began as a mechanism to make viable the trade of hand-screen printed textiles from remote art centres to the interior design market. Through collaboration and being guided by the excitement and hopes of artists they were working with, NORTH evolved into a fashion label.
