OPENING SATURDAY 6 MAY AT 2PM
My name is Karen Rogers and I’m from Ngukurr Community (in the Roper Gulf region of the Northern Territory) .
My tribe is Ngalakgan and I speak Kriol at home. I’ve lived in Ngukurr almost all my life. I am an artist and printer at Ngukurr Arts. My grandmother and her sisters were artists, and they inspired me to become an artist too.
Why don't I write a story about memories about my granddad? You know what my granddad taught me and it'd be good to teach my grandkids. So I decided to, I started writing up that story up and down and then started drawing pictures.
Most of the Toyota is memories of when I used to go at bush with uncle and granddad. Sometimes like my watercolor one son, I take photos and paint from that, even acrylic using photos.
Laundry Gallery is proud to present Main Abija, My Grandad, by Karen Rogers during May 2023. Karen wrote and illustrated a children's book about her grandad and the beautiful original works from the book will be on show for the first time from Saturday 6 May 2023.
