12. Ngayaku Ngurra Wilurrara
' This is my country, northwest of Tjukurla. It's a very important place, ngurra pulkana. This dreaming near Kulkurta. It's about ladies at that place. I got these freckles and spots on my body. That's the Tjukurrpa (Dreaming). Ladies walking around in the bush, collecting yawurr-yawurr, little black berries. I was walking all round there as a young girl, getting that bush food and now I'm painting the kapi (waterhole) and landscape there'.

Carol is an artist from the Giles family, who are prominent artists and cultural knowledge keepers in the region. As a child, Carol was taken to into the Warburton mission with her family and later they walked to Docker River. While Carol previously lived in Tjukurla community in the Ngaanyatjarra lands, she now resides in Kaltukatjara (Docker River) to access essential dialysis treatment.Carol's mother's Country is called Pilge and her father's Country is between Kurlkurta and south-west of Kurlkurta.Carol draws upon her strong knowledge of Tjukurrpa (Dreaming) and her mother and father's country whilst painting,experimenting with a range of forms. Her style is characterised by a liberal application of paint and a relaxed, non-rigid composition. Painting seems to come naturally to Carol, as she draws from her knowledge of women's ceremony (inma) and the application of body paint for cultural purposes.
Tjarlirli Art and Kaltukatjara Art are two community-owned art centers located on either side of the border between the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The Tjarlirli art centre is located in Tjukurla, a small community of around 50 people in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. Tjukurla was established here in the 1980s due to its proximity to extremely significant cultural sites and the ancestral homelands of community members. Nestled between sand dunes and the vast salt lake (Lake Hopkins). Kaltukatjara art centre is just across the border in the NPY Lands of the Northern Territory. Kaltukatjara (Docker River) community was established as a settlement in the 1960s and is now home to around 300 people. It lies along stunning mountain ranges and river beds.
