21. Wingarntjirri
'This is my borning place - Wingarntjirri. It is west of Tjukurla community. These are the Tali and Kapi, the sanddunes and rockholes, of that place. I was born in the bush. My mother, Katjarra Butler, was walking around from place to place with me getting ready. She had me at Wingarntjirri'.
Sally Butler is the daughter of acclaimed senior artist Katjarra Butler. She has two sons, Patrick and Winston. Sally spends most of her time at Tjukurla Community although she has connections in Darwin and Batchelor. Sally’s works often depict the women out collecting food around the Tjukurla area.Sally has a vibrant energy which is channelled into her use of colour and form. She has a command of colour which echoes her personality; favouring joyful, bright shades and harmonious palettes. Her emergent style echoes her mother's stories and the knowledge she has of the significant sites around her home country in the western desert. In addition to her painting practice, Sally has worked with batik and other textiles, and more recently has expanded into silk dyeing and painting techniques. The soft-edged forms of this medium evoke the gentle lushness with which her mother depicts sacred desert sites, however Sally's work has a unique freshness all of its own.
Tjarlirli Art and Kaltukatjara Art are two community-owned art centers located on either side of the border between the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The Tjarlirli art centre is located in Tjukurla, a small community of around 50 people in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. Tjukurla was established here in the 1980s due to its proximity to extremely significant cultural sites and the ancestral homelands of community members. Nestled between sand dunes and the vast salt lake (Lake Hopkins). Kaltukatjara art centre is just across the border in the NPY Lands of the Northern Territory. Kaltukatjara (Docker River) community was established as a settlement in the 1960s and is now home to around 300 people. It lies along stunning mountain ranges and river beds.

1. Monday is the day we do our shipping/postage each week unless Express Shipping is requested at the time of purchase. If for some reason there is a delay and your item isn’t able to be shipped the Monday after you purchased it we will be in touch.
2. All artworks shipped from Laundry Gallery are insured and require a signature on delivery. A tracking number is be provided as part of our shipping process to the contact details you provide.
3. Whilst we use Australia Post services where possible, for large, heavy or high value artworks we use a third party courier service. We will advise you of this at the time of purchase, or get in touch as soon as possible if on reflection using a courier seems more appropriate for your artwork. Once we have organised a quote it will be the courier who gets in touch to organise delivery times closer to the date, but we are always here to support you throughout the process!
4. If the artwork you have purchased is part of a current or future Laundry Gallery exhibition, we will need to wait until after the exhibition period has ended before we can send the artwork to you.
5. International Customers are currently unable to make a purchase online however we do ship worldwide. Please contact us for an invoice and to arrange a shipping quote.
